OUR STORY

A Family Business Built on Expertise

Zennkai’s roots go back to 1984, when Mark Banicevic — whose parents had come to Canada from Croatia — opened the Mega Hair Group in Burnaby, BC. Mark’s mission was simple: bring the professional brands used in high-end salons to Metro Vancouver clients at fair prices, without the salon markup.

 

In 2000, his daughter Milajne Soligo took the helm as general manager and established the Zennkai brand, uniting the family’s professional retail under one name and one standard. The name comes from the Japanese word Kaizen (改善), meaning continuous improvement — and it’s how the business has operated for four decades.

 

Zennkai is not affiliated with any national chain and carries no franchise obligations. Every brand relationship, every price, and every product decision is made independently — which is why we can carry Kérastase, Davines, and Kevin Murphy in full professional ranges while keeping pricing fair.

These brands are distributed through authorized professional retail agreements with the brand’s Canadian distributor. The national chains don’t hold these authorization agreements for Kérastase, Davines, Kevin Murphy, or K18. Zennkai has maintained direct authorized-retailer agreements since each brand entered the Canadian professional market — which is why we can carry these brands and guarantee their authenticity.

Why are Zennkai’s professional prices lower than I expect?
