Dry hair at the conditioner step has one priority: getting moisture in and keeping it there. Sebastian Drench Hydrating Conditioner is built specifically for that — an intensely nourishing rinse-out formula that drenches dry, frizzy, or chemically treated hair with deep moisture, detangles without effort, and calms frizz for silky body and fluid movement that lasts beyond the rinse. The second step in the Drench hydration system, and the step where the real transformation happens.

Drench Hydrating Conditioner uses a rich cationic conditioning base designed to deposit deeply on dry, porous, or chemically treated hair — the hair types where moisture depletion is most pronounced and where standard conditioners leave results feeling temporary.

Behenamidopropyl Dimethylamine is the primary conditioning agent — a fatty acid-derived cationic that deposits specifically at points of cuticle damage and charge imbalance on the hair shaft. Dry and chemically treated hair carries a stronger negative charge than healthy hair, which means positively charged conditioning agents are attracted to precisely the areas of greatest need. Behenamidopropyl Dimethylamine provides the slip, detangling, and smoothing action that makes severely dry, tangled hair manageable and combable without breakage. Quaternium-80 is a quaternary conditioning silicone that adds surface smoothing, anti-static, and frizz-control properties — the ingredient behind the formula's ability to calm frizz and deliver the fluid, sleek movement that distinguishes Drench-treated hair from hair that's been conditioned but not truly hydrated.

Stearyl Alcohol and Cetyl Alcohol form the emollient base of the formula — both fatty alcohols that provide the creamy, rich texture of the conditioner and deliver direct emollient conditioning to the cuticle surface. These are not drying alcohols; they are conditioning agents that soften the cuticle, add sheen, and leave hair feeling substantively moisturised rather than surface-coated.

Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil is rich in Oleic acid, Linoleic acid, and gamma-oryzanol — a complex of compounds that penetrates the hair shaft and restores the lipid layer that chemical processing, heat styling, and over-washing strip away. Rice Bran Oil is particularly effective on coarse or resistant dry hair where heavier emollients are needed to restore suppleness. Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil closely mimics the hair's natural sebum — absorbing rapidly without residue to add elasticity and shine to dehydrated ends. Together, the two oils address dry hair at different penetration depths: Rice Bran Oil rebuilds the lipid layer within the shaft; Jojoba refines the surface.

Glutamic Acid is an amino acid that acts as a natural hair-conditioning agent, reinforcing the hair's protein structure at the surface level and improving the feel and resilience of conditioned strands — particularly relevant for chemically processed hair where amino acid depletion is a direct consequence of the chemical service. Propylene Glycol provides the humectant moisture-binding that holds water within the conditioned shaft after rinsing.

Metro Vancouver note: Hard water mineral deposits on the cuticle surface physically block conditioner deposits from absorbing fully — meaning even a rich formula like Drench will underperform on hair with active mineral buildup. If results are less consistent than expected, a chelation step before your wash routine may significantly improve uptake. See our Hard Water Hair Damage hub for the protocol.

Who It's For Dry, frizzy, dehydrated, or chemically treated hair of any texture. Concentrate application on ends and areas of greatest dryness. Colour-safe. Suitable for everyday use on dry hair — the conditioning base is rich enough for consistent use on parched hair without over-softening at the root on fine strands when applied mid-lengths to ends only.

Key Ingredients

  • Behenamidopropyl Dimethylamine — Fatty acid-derived cationic conditioning agent; deposits at damaged cuticle points for targeted slip, detangling, and smoothing
  • Quaternium-80 — Quaternary conditioning silicone; anti-static, frizz control, and the fluid movement finish that defines the Drench result
  • Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil — Rich in Oleic and Linoleic acid; penetrates the hair shaft to restore the lipid layer stripped by chemical processing and heat
  • Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil — Sebum-mimicking emollient; absorbs without residue to add elasticity and shine to dehydrated ends
  • Stearyl Alcohol & Cetyl Alcohol — Emollient fatty alcohols; provide the conditioning base texture and direct cuticle softening
  • Glutamic Acid — Amino acid; reinforces surface protein structure on chemically processed hair

How to Use Remove excess water from hair after shampooing. Work through hair concentrating on ends and the areas in greatest need of conditioning. Leave on for 1–3 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. For best results, use after Sebastian Drench Hydrating Shampoo.
