Bond Building 101
It's no question you’ve heard the term bond building in magazines, your local beauty supplier, or the hair salon. The question is…Is it for you?! If you answer ‘yes’ to any of the following, it's time to head into your local Zennkai and grab your products!
Do you blow dry/flat iron or curl your hair?
Do you get your hair colored?
Are you highlighting your hair?
Is your hair damaged?
Have you chemically straightened your hair?
I know the majority of you have most likely said yes to at least one of the questions. If not, bond building shampoo can still be for you – natural hair that hasn't been colored or heat styled can still get damaged from environmental stressors and UV rays. Long story short...bond building is for everyone and all hair types!
So what is it exactly?!
Bond building products typically contain amino acids which make up the building blocks of protein. If your using protein on hair that has broken bonds, only the hair that is still there is getting strengthened - think of it more as a cosmetic fix. Whereas using a bond builder, your actually rebuilding the hair from the inside out - which makes the hair look healthier, shinier, smoother and stronger!
Is protein and bond building the same?
NO! Protein is entirely different. Think of it this way…
If you have a bridge with steps that are broken, and missing, bond building will give you a brand new board to make your bridge smooth and sturdy. A protein will strengthen the boards that you have by coating it with a lacquer, preventing further damage. Someone who needs protein has hair that is stretchy, looks porous, and feels mushy in texture. Protein acts as a protective layer on the hair preventing further damage. Protein is temporary, bond building is FOREVER!
